[160] γαιάοχόν holding or guarding our land; so Aesch. Supp. 816 “γαιάοχε παγκρατὲς Ζεῦ.” In Soph. OC 1072 it is the Homeric epithet of Poseidon, “girdling the earth,” τὸν πόντιον γαιάοχον. Cp. “Παλλὰς πολιοῦχος” Aristoph. Kn. 581(“πολιάοχος” Pind. O. 5.10), “πολισσοῦχοι θεοί” Aesch. Seven 69.
