Ἐς πόλεμον φορέειν, δηΐων ἀνδρῶν ἀλεωρήν, Il. 15. 532, 533. ‘Viro’ after ‘huic,’ like “virgo” after “illa” below v. 610, “puella” after “illa” G. 4. 458, rather rhetorically than for the sake of clearness, the force of the word here being that the present was a proper one for a hero.
