IULIPA (Zalamea de la Serena) Badajoz, Spain.

Between Don Benito and Belmez. It is not mentioned by ancient geographers, but its Roman name is given in CIL II, 2352. Remains include a Roman cistern and a distyle funerary monument. The cistern forms part of a longitudinal suite of rooms separated by a double arch; the surviving portion is more than 10 m long, and its maximum depth is 4.44 m. The sepulchral monument, of the 1st or 2d c. A.D., is of a type well known in Syria: a podium with two columns which probably supported a section of architrave. The upper part of the monument, which is missing, would have measured ca. 24 m.
