A.lurking in a hole, ἀραχναίη, σίλφη, AP9.233 (Eryc.), 251 (Even.), etc.: of the bear, lying torpid in its cave, Theoc.1.115, Hymn.Is.46; metaph., of a shy maiden (opp. πόρνη）“, φωλάδα παρθενικήν” AP11.34 (Phld.); ἀγκύρας φωλάδας, of anchors buried in the sand, ib.10.2 (Antip.Sid.).
2. as Subst., a mollusc that makes holes in stones, Lithodomus, Ath. 3.88a: Hsch. has φωλαΐδες, from a confusion of φωλάδες and φωλίδες.
II. full of holes or lurking places, “πέτρη” Nonn.D.1.163; “ὕλη” 6.270, 22.116; ἔκθορε φωλάδος κοίτης, of a lion, Babr.82.3.
III. φωλάς: εἶδος νόσου (i.e. = φωλεία 1), Suid.
