[43] ὁπλότερος: 'was the youngest warrior amongst the mighty Lapithae' (literally 'younger than the others'). The traditional derivation of ὁπλότερος from ὅπλον, 'more capable of bearing arms' and so 'younger,' is doubtful. Buttmann connects it with ἕπομαι, Doederlein with ἁπαλός. See Leaf on Il. 14. 267.
