[1058] καρχαλέοι: asperi. For a different use v. 4. 1442. This adj. is closely connected with κάρχαρος 'sharp,' 'sharp-toothed,' Lyc. 34, Τρίτωνοςκάρχαρος κύων (cf. Il. 10. 360, καρχαρόδοντεκύνε). Curtius refers both words to the root kar 'to be hard or rough.'
