[651] τηΰσιοι: μάταιοι. Schol.; cf. Od. 3. 316,τηϋσίην ὁδόν.” Düntzer connects it with ταΰς 'big,' so that its primary meaning would be 'over-big,' 'impracticable.' Ibycus, however, used the form αὔσιον (Et. Mag. 171, 7). In Bacchyl. 5. 81 we find μὴ ταΰσιον προΐειὀιστόν, and in h. Hom. Ap. 540τηΰσιον ἔπος.
