Ἑρμέω. The oldest authority for this scandal against the virtuous Penelope is Pindar (Serv. ad Georg. i. 16). It was this Pan who was reported ‘dead’ by the mysterious voice in the Aegean during the reign of Tiberius (Plut. de Def. Orac. 17, Mor. 419).
