1. βεβουλευμένα ὀρθῶς εὑρήσει (or obl.) refers chiefly to πολιτεύματα. 4. οὐ παρεθέντα...προεθέντα, op- portunitatem cuiusque rei non per negligentiam praetermissam nec ignoratam nec proditam (Dissen). παρεθέντα implies carelessness (cf. VIII. 34), προεθέντα wilfulness (cf. VIII. 56). 5. ὅς᾿ implies τοσούτων, depend- ing on οὐδέν. 6. δαίμονος ἢ τύχης: cf. τὸν δαίμονα καὶ τὴν τύχην, Aesch. III. 115, 157. The strength (ἰσχύς) of the superhuman powers is opposed to the weakness and incapacity (φαυλότης) or the treachery of men. See notes on §§ 264.1 and 300.7. 9. τοῖς ὅλοις: see note on § 278.9. —ἀνέτρεψεν, overset, the familiar figure of the ship of state. 10. ἀδικεῖ, not is doing wrong, but is to blame for a past wrong (M.T. 27).
