1, 2. ἀξιῶ, I ask of you (as something ἄξιον); δέομαι, I entreat. See § 6.2.

4. ἔξω τῆς γραφῆς: he has already (§ 9) justified his discussion of the peace; and he repeats his apology now, chiefly to call special attention to what follows.

4, 5. ἐποιούμην ἂν refers to his present argument (cf. § 9.3).—ἕτερον, foreign to the subject, like ἀλλότριον: cf. ἕτερος λόγος οὗτος, § 44.8.
