τοῦ μακροῦ … βίου, i.e., the normal span of life; cp. O. T. 518“οὔτοι βίου μοι τοῦ μακραίωνος πόθος”. κακοῖσιν … μηδὲν ἐξαλλάσσεται, finds no variation in respect to his woes; for the dat. cp. O. T. 25“φθίνουσα μὲν κάλυξιν”: Xen. Cyr. 4. 1. 8“διεφθάρθαι..ταῖς γνώμαις”. The generic negative μηδὲν is used, because “ὅστις” refers to a class or type. (Cp. Soph. Ant. 178 f. “ὅστις..μὴ..ἅπτεται”.) For the sentiment, cp. Soph. Ant. 463“ὅστις γὰρ ἐν πολλοῖσιν, ὡς ἐγώ, κακοῖς ι ζῇ, πῶς ὅδ᾽ οὐχὶ κατθανὼν κέρδος φέρει;” fr. 866 “ὅστις γὰρ ἐν κακοῖσιν ἱμείρει βίου”, | “ἢ δειλός ἐστιν ἢ δυσάλγητος φρένας”.
