πηγάς, not, the sources or springs, but the streams, of tears: so Tr. 852ἔρρωγεν παγὰ δακρύων”, and oft.: cp. O. C. 479, where “πηγάς”=the water gushing from the bowl. On the other hand in fr. 658 “νυκτός...πηγάς”=‘the sources of night’ (the west).
