ἐπικτῶμαι, acquire, win: Aesch. Eum. 671 (“ὅπως”) “καὶ τόνδ᾽ ἐπικτήσαιο σύμμαχον, θεά”. In this general sense the ἐπί is not inconsistent with what “ἔμπας” implies, viz. that she fails to win human sympathy.
